ABOUT
Steve Simonson
I have been a coach for pretty much my whole adult life. My background is specific to the sport of soccer, predominantly in British Columbia, Canada. During my time coaching I have had the great fortune of coaching hundreds of athletes, working for many great clubs, schools, and organizations, and working with a tremendous amount of great people. My coaching roles range anywhere from grassroots youth, to collegiate level sports, to involvement with professional clubs, and even a bit of time around national team environments. Along my travels I have connected with many high level athletes, coaches, business leaders, parents, and athletic directors. All of these encounters have helped shape the leader I have become today.
In 2014 I embarked on an educational journey that would forever change my views on coaching and leadership. I wrote a graduate thesis on the topic of motivational climate, which looks at the psycho-social environment surrounding us as individuals. Predominantly based around the sporting world, motivational climate is an incredibly important topic that I believe is relevant in all areas where human interaction is present, and therefore I feel it is just as pertinent in the workplace, in parenting and in just about any group setting. Understanding how the environment can shape the individual, particularly with respect to motivation and mindset, as well as seeing how the right environment can help group dynamics soar, it has taken my views on leadership in a whole new and exciting direction. It has given me more satisfaction in my role as a coach, and has helped me build better relationships with people. It has even helped me understand my personal thoughts, emotions, and behaviours much more than ever before.
I am very passionate about this topic and happy to share it with anyone who feels it can help better them as an individual, a parent, a coach ,or a leader.
